Car hire
Compare car hire
UK and overseas car hire compared through established brokers. We explain fuel policies, excess and deposits before you book — we never show quotes ourselves.
Compare car hire now
We send you straight to a regulated comparison service. Quotes and contracts are theirs, not ours.
How we're paid: ELITE Compare earns commission when you click through to a provider. This never changes the price you pay.
Diligence
What we check for you
- The fuel policy — full-to-full is almost always cheaper than pre-purchase
- The damage excess, and what a standalone excess policy costs versus the desk product
- The security deposit held on your credit card, and whether a debit card is accepted
- Mileage limits, additional-driver fees and young-driver surcharges
- Whether the pickup is in-terminal or a shuttle ride away
Process
How switching works
- Step 1
Set your dates and flexibility
Fixed dates, a rough window, or anywhere-anytime. Flexibility is the single biggest lever on travel pricing.
- Step 2
Search on an established service
We deep-link you to well-known travel search and booking services. They show live availability and handle your booking.
- Step 3
Book direct with the provider
Your contract is with the airline, hotel, hire company or insurer. You keep their terms, protections and cancellation rights.
Guide
Compare car hire: the ELITE guide
How car hire pricing really works
Placeholder editorial copy — replace before launch. car hire prices move on demand, seasonality and inventory rather than on any fixed rate card. The same product can cost noticeably more or less depending on the day you look, the device you look on and how far ahead you are booking. Nothing about that is sinister — it is simply how travel inventory is sold.
We do not sell travel and we do not show live prices on this site. What we do is explain which numbers matter, then hand you to an established search or booking service that can quote you properly and take responsibility for the booking, the terms and your consumer rights.
What to check before you book
Placeholder editorial copy — replace before launch. The headline figure is rarely the final figure. Baggage, seat selection, deposits, fuel policies, cleaning fees, card charges and cancellation terms all change the true cost. Compare like for like — a fare or rate that looks cheaper often excludes something the alternative includes.
Check who you are actually contracting with. A search site is not always the merchant of record, and your rights on cancellation or delay depend on the provider, the payment method and, for flights, the airline and route. Read the terms on the booking page rather than the search results page.
The ELITE approach to travel
Placeholder editorial copy — replace before launch. ELITE Compare applies the same posture to travel as it does to energy, broadband and insurance. We are an introducer. We are not a travel agent, tour operator or ATOL holder, and we do not hold client money. When you click through, you are dealing directly with the provider.
We are paid a commission by the services we link to, and that never changes the price you pay. If the honest answer is that a direct booking with the airline or hotel is better for you, we will say so.
Most households we speak to review travel in isolation. It is worth checking travel insurance, car hire excess and your existing home or car policies together — cover you already hold often overlaps with cover you are about to buy again.
